Which NSW coastal waterway has the lowest microplastic contamination? Watch our video and have a guess! As part of Australia’s first large-scale microplastic study, we assessed 120 coastal waterways across the state to better understand where microplastics are present, and where action is needed most. Microplastics were detected in every waterway surveyed, with the highest levels in urban catchments and the lowest in less disturbed environments. This research provides a critical baseline for future policy, monitoring and targeted intervention.
