Kylie Jacky, our Manager Aboriginal Initiatives, has been named NSW Local Woman of the Year 2026 for Ballina, for her leadership in community recovery following the devastating 2022 NSW floods. Kylie Jacky, a proud Nyangbul Bundjalung woman, is being recognised for having demonstrated exceptional leadership and service to her community. As Chair of Jali Local Aboriginal Land Council, Kylie has guided Cabbage Tree Island’s recovery from the 2022 NSW floods, ensuring residents’ voices shape their future. “I’m honoured to be recognised for the work in the Cabbage Tree Island community, helping rebuild it after the devastating floods in 2022,” Kylie said. “The community was badly affected by the floods, and while we’ve helped about 30 people return to their homes, most residents are still in temporary accommodation.” With 25 years’ experience in NSW Government and extensive volunteer work, Kylie exemplifies integrity, resilience and cultural advocacy. And her leadership and effort is strengthening outcomes for both community and Country. Kylie is one of a number of women recognised across NSW for their impact in local communities.
