𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮 $𝟯𝟱𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗜𝗘 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 ❤️ Announced today at the National Medical Research Council, Singapore Awards Ceremony and Research Symposium 2026 by Minister for Health Mr Ong Ye Kung, the new RIE Grand Challenge is launched by the National Research Foundation Singapore, in partnership with the Ministry of Health (Singapore), with a $350 million government commitment under RIE2030. The 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 will focus on three priority areas: 🧠 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, including vascular dementia, which accounts for nearly half of all dementia cases in Singapore, roughly twice the proportion seen in Western populations 💪 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, addressing conditions like sarcopenic obesity, which affects Asians at lower BMIs and earlier in life than Western populations 🏘️ 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗼-𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, optimising our built environment, social systems, and digital health technologies to support healthy ageing in the community A key feature of this Grand Challenge is its open, 🤝 collaborative approach – bringing together industry, researchers and institutions to develop strong use cases and test innovations in real care settings. Industry partners may co-develop proposals with local researchers and selected participants will also be able to leverage TRUST, Singapore’s national health analytics platform, to securely access anonymised datasets. 💡 The Grand Challenge is a cornerstone of Singapore’s $37 billion #𝗥𝗜𝗘𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻, which sharpens our research efforts on areas of the highest strategic and economic value.
