First announced in February 2026, Prof Tan was admitted at a ceremony held on 30 June 2026 at the Royal Society of Medicine in London, alongside fellow Honorary Fellows Dr John Climax and Dr Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw. The AMS honoured the trio for their far-reaching contributions across clinical research, health systems leadership, and biotechnology. A renal physician by training, Prof Tan led Singaporeโs public health response to the 2003 SARS outbreak as Director of Medical Services, before serving as President of the National University of Singapore (NUS) from 2008 to 2017.
