Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is a chronic skin condition that can be difficult to recognise. For people living with CSU, its impact often extends far beyond visible hives. Persistent itch, deep skin swelling, disrupted sleep, reduced confidence, and social withdrawal are common, even when the skin appears normal between flareups. Often missed and underdiagnosed, CSU affects 1% of the global population and is commonly seen in young to middle-aged adults, affecting twice as many women compared to men. Through the #ISeeU campaign, we aim to highlight conditions like CSU, whose effect on people’s lives may not always be immediately apparent in a clinical setting. Greater awareness of how CSU shows up, and its accompanying signs and symptoms can support more informed treatment plans. In our latest feature with The Straits Times, we explore why recognising CSU is an important step toward helping patients feel understood and supported, so they are encouraged to seek the care they need.
