♻️ A milestone for recycled plastics in Europe: 👉 New EU rules on recycled content in single-use PET beverage bottles could become a key turning point for Europe’s circular plastics economy. For the first time, there will be a clear methodology to calculate, verify and report chemically recycled content in PET bottles. Why does this matter? Because transparency and traceability are essential if recycled-content targets are to drive real investment, innovation and environmental progress. 🔍 What changes? The new rules aim to create a more level playing field, provide investment security for the plastics recycling sector and help Member States meet recycled-content targets under the Single-Use Plastics Directive. ⚙️+ 🧪 Mechanical and chemical recycling as complementary solutions: Mechanical recycling remains the backbone of plastics recycling. But for waste streams that are difficult to recycle mechanically — for example due to food residues, additives or mixed materials — chemical recycling can play an important complementary role. By breaking plastics down into smaller molecules, chemical recycling can help bring more plastic waste streams back into the circular economy, including applications with high-quality requirements such as food-contact packaging. 🌍 Credibility is key The EU’s message is clear: recycled content must be credible, traceable and environmentally sustainable. This clarity can help strengthen competitiveness, support investment and accelerate innovation in advanced recycling technologies. 💡 These and other technological and regulatory developments will be front and centre at the Advanced Recycling Conference 2026, hosted by nova-Institut GmbH-Institute. 📍 Cologne, Germany & online 📅 17–18 November 2026 🎟️ Early bird discount available until 16 July 2026 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eCDPWi5u 👨‍🔬 Abstract submission: 31 July 2026 https://lnkd.in/efDg9CuY 🏆 Join industry leaders, technology providers, brands, investors, policy makers and researchers to discuss how advanced recycling can help scale circular solutions for plastics. #AdvancedRecycling #ChemicalRecycling #PETBottles #CircularEconomy #PlasticRecycling #EURegulation #SustainablePackaging #Recycling
