Against the odds, 39-year-old Fatimah found a new beginning—thanks to expert, compassionate care and extraordinary resilience. At just 14 weeks pregnant, Fatimah developed dangerously high potassium levels. Having lupus and being in kidney failure, she was already considered a high-risk pregnancy. During her five-month stay at North Shore University Hospital, Fatimah was surrounded by support from friends, family, and a multidisciplinary team that was committed to caring for this mom-to-be. After a long, emotional journey, Fatimah welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world. Following months of dialysis, the new mom received the life-changing call that a kidney was available.
