Ronnie Belizaire, FIIDA was headed toward a career in accounting until a shift at twenty-two sent her into interior design instead. Years later, the Great Recession cost her a job in healthcare design and left her doing space planning work just to stay in the field, a detour that ended up reshaping her entire career. On the latest episode of 𝘕𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘍𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘙𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘰, host John Ray sat down with Ronnie to find out where that path eventually led. Today she is the Managing Office Director of HKS, Inc. in Atlanta, part of a global architecture and design firm whose public projects include work on NFL stadiums and a regenerative design tower in Salt Lake City. On the show, she and John discussed a misconception a lot of business owners carry about design: that a great-looking space has to cost more than a forgettable one. Ronnie explained why that is rarely true and what actually separates the two. The conversation moved into how design decisions show up on a balance sheet, how office space has to work for three very different generations of employees at once, and how a building's posture toward its clients and community can say more about a company than its marketing does. Ronnie also opened up about her own approach to leading the Atlanta office, and what she looks for before recommending any business start a build out or renovation.
