What If You Could Build the Perfect Organization From Scratch? Remember that exercise from civics class—the one where you’re asked to imagine your ideal society? What laws would you pass? How would decisions be made? Who gets power, and how is it shared? At Northeast Tech 4 Good, we’re taking that question seriously—not as a thought experiment, but as a blueprint for building a nonprofit that models the future we want to see. We're still small. We haven't hired our first employee yet. And that’s precisely the time to think about these big questions. Instead of retrofitting equity into an existing system, we're building it in from the beginning: * Designing equitable compensation strategies before anyone is on payroll * Developing policy that flattens hierarchies and builds transparency into governance * Recruiting board members from outside the "usual networks"—because fresh perspectives matter * Forming deep community ties, not just partnerships of convenience * Crafting a culture where technology supports people, not the other way around This is a lot of work. We know it’s imperfect. And we know we’ll revise and adapt as we go. But it is worth every second of effort. However, we’re not afraid to ask big questions early, because we believe small organizations can drive significant change. Structural equity isn’t something you add later. It’s something you plant in the foundation. And at Northeast Tech 4 Good, we’re committed to doing just that. #NonprofitLeadership #TechForGood #EquityInAction #NortheastTech4Good #LiberatoryDesign #CommunityLed #GovernanceReform #FutureOfWork #SocialImpactTech #BuildFromScratch
