❓ How can you monitor internal components in maritime, offshore, renewable, and other heavy industries without needing to dismantle equipment? ☑️ BeSound, developed by NORCE, has the answer: – Our mission has been to develop and commercialize a cost‑effective acoustic emission technology for hydraulic cylinders. The monitoring system is designed to enable predictive maintenance of critical offshore and maritime equipment, says senior researcher Vignesh Shanbhag. 🔑 Together with colleagues he has worked with BeSound as a proof-of-concept project funded by the Research Council of Norway. 🔗 The technology targets non‑rotating assets, like large hydraulic cylinders, where traditional sensors are ineffective in detecting fluid leakage. ☑️ The goal is to establish BeSound AS, delivering a cost‑effective, retrofittable, and scalable monitoring solution for maritime, offshore, renewable, and other heavy industries. – The work has clarified the technical requirements, risks, and market needs, and we now have a solid foundation for the next development phase. Our focus going forward will be to refine the design, strengthen industry partnerships, and seek new funding opportunities for continued system maturation. This positions us well to progress toward a robust, commercially solution in the next stage, Shanbhag says.
