At Wadsworth STEM Elementary School’s Family Night, we delivered a fun experience with the Punching for Data: Boxing Math Challenge, blending the energy of boxing with the power of math. Students stepped into a world where sports met STEM, learning boxing techniques like jabs, crosses, hooks, and uppercuts while using smartwatches to track heart rate and calories burned. The highlight? Students collaborated in teams to calculate mean, median, and mode, transforming data from their punches into math they could see and understand. Their excitement and curiosity showed the impact of combining active learning with real-world applications.
