Yesterday, our colleagues welcomed both Minister Stientje van Veldhoven and Deputy Minister Jo-Annes de Bat for Climate and Green Growth, as well as regional and national representatives to our drilling site in Zuidwending. In collaboration with Gasunie, Nobian has begun the first of two exploratory drillings for the HyStock Waterstofopslag underground hydrogen storage project. Underground hydrogen storage is indispensable for a future‑proof energy system, enabling the balancing of supply and demand and supporting the growth of a national hydrogen network. The HyStock project will play a key role in enabling the future hydrogen economy. As highlighted in the Dutch National Agenda for Underground Hydrogen Storage, multiple hydrogen storage caverns will be required to balance supply and demand nationwide. Zuidwending is a natural choice thanks to its proven subsurface suitability, existing infrastructure, and long track record with safe gas storage. Developing hydrogen storage caverns here will support system flexibility, industrial decarbonization and energy dependency. Together with Willemien Terpstra, CEO of Gasunie, we were pleased to have hosted Regional Ministers Nadja Siersema - Orsel and Pascal Roemers of the Province of Groningen, along with mayor Jaap Kuin of Pekela and mayor Annelies Pleyte of Veendam, together with the minister and deputy minister. A delegation from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and the Provincie Groningen supported the visit, led by Kees Hansma, Director Transition of the Deep Underground, and Johan Koopmans, Director and member of the provincial leadership team. #GrowGreenerTogether #hydrogen #StorageCaverns #GreenTransition #chemistry #salt #sustainability #strategicautonomy Picture: Gasunie Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat | Marco Waas | Eric Huisman | Siebe Viersen, Louwrens Op de Beek | Jorn van der Meer
