The SuedOstLink transmission line, which is currently being built and later operated by 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, is set to have a major impact on the German energy transition, transporting renewable energy from the north to the southern part of Germany. We are delighted to participate in the open site days, recently in the district Lützen. “We always value taking part in on-site events like this, where we can engage directly with citizens to showcase how major infrastructure projects likethis are developed and built. As cable specialists, we also appreciate the opportunity to talk about how our 525 kV HVDC underground cable systems play a key role in transporting energy across Germany,” says Markus Sturl, Associate Project Manager for SüdOstLink at NKT. The SuedOstLink cable system from NKT will span approximately 250 km within the 50Hertz grid area, from Saxony-Anhalt to the state border of Thuringia and Bavaria. It will consist of two 525 kV HVDC XLPE onshore cable systems, including accessories and installation, and a power rating of 2 GW per system, equivalent to 4 GW in total. NKT has a strong presence in Germany, with production facilities in Cologne and Nordenham. We are committed to providing a robust cable system that reliably delivers high‑voltage energy to critical demand areas.
