For the first time, NKT took part in London Climate Action Week, one of the world's largest climate gatherings, participating in a range of events as both speakers and active contributors. "Being part of London Climate Action Week is a valuable opportunity to engage with customers and other key stakeholders on a topic that is becoming more relevant every day. The fact that an event on extreme heat had to be cancelled due to the heatwave serves as a tangible reminder of why climate action remains such an urgent priority,” says Anthony Abbotts, VP and Head of Group Sustainability at NKT. NKT was pleased to join BSR's discussion Reframing Climate Strategy: The Future of Corporate Targets. The session brought together sustainability leaders to explore how companies can balance ambition with pragmatism while accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. "Climate targets remain essential, but targets alone do not reduce emissions. What matters is whether they drive real decisions, investments and action. As companies move towards 2030, we need to collectively have more focus on solutions that can address some of the systemic bottlenecks that are hindering our progress, one of which is electrification," says Anthony Abbotts. We also appreciated the opportunity to take part in other sessions, including the SSE plc, National Grid and Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA) dinner discussion on electrifying growth, the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) event on aligning capital for resilience and growth, and the Climate Group Opportunity Summit roundtable on cost and competitive advantage. The discussions reinforced the importance of electrification as a key enabler of decarbonisation and highlighted the need for collaboration across industries, value chains and policymakers to accelerate the energy transition.
