In his address, Prof. Rihan emphasized the central role of solar energy in decarbonising the electricity infrastructure, while highlighting Indiaโ€™s significant achievements and ambitious future plans in the clean energy domain. He underlined the importance of making solar power more sustainable and spoke about key focus areas in this direction. These included improving the efficiency and durability of solar system components, ensuring optimal utilisation of solar energy through sector coupling and demand-side management, and the critical role of accurate solar power forecasting. Prof. Rihan also stressed the need for responsible site selection with minimal social impact and highlighted emerging applications such as rooftop solar, Agri-PV, and Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV). The importance of reuse of solar panels and recycling at the end of their life cycle was also discussed, reinforcing the need for a circular and sustainable solar ecosystem. Through his address, Prof. Rihan showcased NISEโ€™s initiatives and reaffirmed the commitment towards building a resilient, inclusive, and environmentally responsible solar future.
