๐ŸŒฟOne last time in his signature pose with seaweeds: yesterday, we said goodbye to Klaas Timmermans after over 35 years of working at NIOZ. ๐Ÿ‘‹ ๐Ÿ‘ With a symposium filled with speeches of colleagues, collaboration partners and his PhD's, we celebrated Klaas' extensive career and the contribution he made to NIOZ, both scientific as well as organisational. ๐ŸŒŸStarting as a ecophysiologist on Texel, after a few years his work focused on algae. He started and actually helped to build what is now know as our Seaweed Centre, with tanks on both Texel and in Yerseke to grow different types of #seaweeds under all sorts of experimental conditions. He layed the foundation of countless collaborations between societal partners, industry and educational institutions, often focused on a #sustainablefuture. He fulfilled several management positions, the last years as head of the NIOZ Estuarine and Delta Systems department. Klaas, we thank you for taking us along on your scientific adventures! And we'll be proud to continue building on your work. Read more about his work in our farewell interview on the website: https://lnkd.in/eVia2jGY
