🦪 Published! The results of pioneering oyster reef experiments were published today in the scientific magazine One Earth.   A new study by Zhiyuan Zhao and colleagues shows that it is necessary to consider the short-term risk that introduced oysters will become buried by shifting sediment or will be dislodged by strong near-bed currents.   Oyster reefs, hosting a great variety of biodiversity, were once abundant in the North Sea and other, so-called marginal seas at the edges of continental shelves, but have disappeared from 97 % of their original locations.   To help select potentially successful sites for reintroduction, the findings of this study have the potential to move restoration planning away from trial and error and toward a more risk-informed strategy.   🔍 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e_jJnWtK
