We had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Joanne Preston from the University of Portsmouth at NIOZ Estuarine and Delta Systems department. Her lecture was part of our special colloquium series celebrating the 150th anniversary of NIOZ. Ā Prof. Preston shared her inspiring insights in a lecture exploring the loss, degradation, and fragmentation of marine ecosystems along European coasts. She highlighted why restoring and reconnecting these seascapes is essential for biodiversity, ecosystem resilience, and human wellbeing. The talk also explored how marine ecological connectivity can contribute to international climate and biodiversity goals and help shape future restoration ambitions. Ā š Read more on our website below š Ā This colloquium was the second in a series of five. Through these lectures, we aim to stimulate dialogue between disciplines, connect people and ideas, and strengthen the international scientific community surrounding NIOZ. The next lecture will be held on September 3 on Texel. Our guest will be Prof. Stefan Rahmstorf. His research focuses on ocean circulation, sea-level rise, and abrupt climate change, with particular attention to tipping elements in the Earth system such as the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC). https://lnkd.in/eT4qTqcb
