‘𝐃𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠’ 𝐢𝐬 𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘!! To celebrate its release, I’ll share the story of one of the fabulous voice actors who brings Tobi, the Beaver, to life (who also happens to be my son!). Once upon a time, there was a little boy called Jack.   Jack was a gorgeous little toddler who loved to make raspberry sounds, flap his hands and line his toys up perfectly in size and colour order.   As Jack was a twin, with another brother only a year older, it was clear to his Mummy and Daddy that he wasn’t hitting the big milestones at the ‘right times’.   Zooming through lots of years of tests, monitoring and oodles of form filling, Jack was diagnosed as autistic and also awarded an EHCP to ensure he got all the additional support he needed.   Over the years, Jack pushed through every barrier going to improve his gross and fine motor skills, speech and social skills. Having been told at 6 it was doubtful he would ever ‘get’ phonics and reading, by 9 he had a reading age of 10, with his spelling and writing skills also catching up quickly.   Fast forward a little further to summer 2024, and a casting call for a selection of video game characters was sent to Jack’s mummy through the fabulous Indie Casting Director Kathryn Vinclaire. One of them struck Jack’s Mummy as being waaaayyyy better suited to him than her.   Jack absolutely nailed his first ever audition and won the role against over 70 experienced voice actors! Jack’s Mummy explained to the developer Happy Broccoli Games, that Jack is autistic and likely also ADHD, and had never done a live session before.   She needn’t have worried, as Annika Maar's biggest concern was casting the right voice and as far as she was concerned that was definitely Jack!
