While the costs are eye-watering (approximately A$368 billion), AUKUS has profoundly altered the strategic dimensions in the Indo-Pacific. America's asymmetric advantages in East Asia - its unique undersea warfare capabilities and network of security alliances and partnerships - have been further strengthened.
