After four incredible years of learning and growing, I’ve made the difficult decision to move on from Rivian to pursue a new adventure. Leaving behind the amazing team I’ve had the privilege of leading was not easy. But after the birth of my first child six months ago, I had to face the reality of what it means to lead a manufacturing team in a factory 2,000 miles from home. No leader should ask more of their team than they are willing or able to give — and I’m no longer in a position to spend half my life on the factory floor, far away from my family. When it came down to choosing between the kind of leader I aspire to be and the kind of father I want to become — the decision was obvious. I’m incredibly grateful to Charly M. and Chris Lillywhite, whose leadership showed me what empowerment really looks like. As someone who hadn’t set foot in an automotive plant before joining Rivian, it was refreshing — and powerful — to be part of a culture where curiosity and problem-solving mattered more than credentials. A place where smart people from any background could succeed by grounding solutions in first principles, not “the way it’s always been done.” As Rivian enters its next chapter of leadership, I hope that culture endures. It’s been a key part of what’s made the company special — and essential to staying ahead of the pack. To the teams I had the honor of leading: thank you, thank you, thank you. You welcomed me with open arms despite my unconventional background. You inspired me daily, taught me more than I could have imagined, and consistently proved that the impossible was possible. I will always be proud to say, “That was my team.” More to come soon on what’s next!
