On Saturday, June 6, we celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Oakland Kids First, one of our leading non-profit partners in youth development and advocacy. OKF grew out of the need to advance youth programs and to fund them. ED Lukas Brekke-Miesner is a graduate of their program, who at 10 years old was door knocking to get the vote for the creation of OFCY in the city of Oakland. We have partnered with OKF for 15 years, but we crossed paths in 2002, when we fought to provide transportation for youth with YT. The event was MC’d by my rising Senior, Angie, and several students shared their key moments with OKF. My former leadership student, Janet, has done a phenomenal job at fostering youth leadership with the program REAL HARD as the lead organizer at Fremont. I was able to see some long-time friends in the youth development work and enjoy a good time through memory lane. Congratulations Lukas and OKF Board and Staff, and all the kids who have come through them!!! 🎉🙌🏾⭐️
