Today, on Remembrance Day, I wanted to share a few personal reflections on the incredible sacrifices made for our freedom and peace as Canadians. We remember the 1.1 million Canadians who served in WW II and the immense, lasting impact of their service. Amongst these service persons were 55,000 women; my Uncle Guy who went to fight and was never the same having witnessed the horror of war as a 17 year old, and my father in law Cornelis van Kuppeveld who served in the British airforce. May they both rest in peace with all those who served. The liberation of the Netherlands is a very personal piece of our family history. A rendering of the bridge, that our Canadian forces secured, adorns our living room wall. A reminder of the connection between our extended family, and our history in the Netherlands and our peaceful blessed life, for which we are so grateful, as Canadians. We recognize the dedication of these men and women, and the peacekeepers, whose service upholds our freedoms. I am reminded that war is not abstract. That our duty is to further the cause of peace, in small and big ways, and to embody the values the fallen fought for—in our names. We owe them our deepest gratitude for their service and their sacrifice. Let us ensure we are worthy of their sacrifice, today and every day. Lest we forget. #Netherlands #remembranceday #canadalife #remembranceday2025 #worldpeace #canadianarmedforces #edmontonmilitarywiveschoir #womensupportingwomen #womenleaders
