Georg Lichtenberg was an 18th century German physicist and one of the fathers of modern scientific methodology. He was the youngest of 17 children. Unsurprisingly his family could not afford to pay for his education; but he was obviously so intelligent that funds were forthcoming from the regional Lord for him to attend the University of Gottingen, where he rose to and held the role of Professor until his death. He left many notebooks that have been widely admired for their illustration of his thought process in his rigorous quest for knowledge.
