In 2024, I started a 501(c)(3) in honor of my late dog, Sadie. The mission was simple: remove financial barriers to adoption by sponsoring adoption fees for dogs who need it, and by supporting the rescues doing the work. For Sadie’s Spirit of Rescue Inc., we set a clear goal: sponsor 6 dog adoptions in the 12 months following our launch. We officially launched in December 2024, on Sadie’s birthday. Today, with the sponsorship of Quinn, a 2-year-old pittie from Virginia, we’ve sponsored 7 dogs. Of those, 4 have been adopted so far, with their fees fully covered. The remaining dogs are still waiting for the right homes, and their funds are already set aside. It’s been a good reminder that in nonprofit work (and creative work), effort and outcome don’t always line up on the same timeline. Both still matter immensely! I’m proud of the dogs we’ve supported, grateful for the adoptions that have happened, and committed to seeing the rest through! Impact isn’t always instant, but it’s still impact. Every day, this work is a tribute to Sadie.
