There was plenty of energy at McDonald Jones Stadium last week, with football superstar Mary Fowler dropping in to surprise 100 local Hunter kids at a nib grassroots skills and drills football clinic. For many, it was their first time meeting one of their heroes. But the focus stayed where it should, getting involved and having fun. Led by The Newcastle Jets A-League Women’s team, you could see the mix of excitement and nerves from the kids, but it didn’t take long for them to settle in and enjoy it. By the end, they were laughing and treating Mary like she was part of the group. “It’s so special to see so many kids enjoying the game and genuinely having fun. Growing up, sport played a big role in building my confidence and sense of belonging, and that’s what I hope they take away from today," Mary said. "Working with nib, I’m passionate about helping more Australians get active and feel part of the game, no matter their ability.”
