Nurse Filipinas donated her kidney to a stranger, in response to someone doing the same for her husband – and both operations took place on the same day at the hospital. Filipinas, who works at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, had hoped to donate a kidney to her husband, Cesar, but they weren’t a match because of their different blood groups. Through the NHS Kidney Sharing Scheme, Cesar was matched with another donor – and Filipinas chose to pass on that kindness by donating her kidney to someone else who needed one. The scheme helps people receive a kidney transplant when someone they know wants to donate, but isn’t a direct match. Thank you to Filipinas, the team at St George’s and everyone involved in making transplants like this possible 💙 Interested in becoming a donor? Visit www.nhsbt.nhs.uk this World Transplant Day.
