‘I always look back with pride for my time in the service.' This Armed Forces Day, we’re celebrating all who have served – including Jim. Jim joined the army in 1995, serving in the Balkans as a Sapper (a military engineer) for five years, before a back injury led to his medical discharge. After leaving, Jim felt a loss of identity and purpose. His community mental health team referred him to Op COURAGE – a specialist NHS mental health and wellbeing service for veterans. Jim turned that experience into a career. After seven years as an emergency medical technician at London Ambulance Service NHS Trust, advocating and improving support for veterans, he became a regional trainer for the Armed Forces healthcare training and education programme. This programme now trains NHS staff to identify veterans, fully understand their needs and connect them to the right services. 'Supporting NHS staff to provide veterans with the care they need is incredibly rewarding.' The Armed Forces healthcare training and education programme is available to all NHS staff, find out more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d6acjhJY
