Congratulations to Medway NHS Foundation Trust for winning the Delivering Value Award for their SMART Acute Virtual Hospital, at the first ever NHS Excellence Awards 🎉 Their virtual ward delivers consultant-led, acute-level care in patients' homes, 24/7 across multiple specialties - and at 30% lower cost than a physical bed. In its first quarter alone, it saved 4,926 bed days and created capacity equivalent to 54 inpatient beds per month, while maintaining 93–96% successful episode completion. It's a bold, replicable model for the future of acute care. An amazing example of system transformation shifting care from the hospital to the home.
