At Royal Lancaster Infirmary, part of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, a new over-bed rehab bike is helping some patients begin their recovery while still in a hospital bed. Paralympic gold medalist and former RAF Corporal Stuart Robinson MBE visited the unit to launch the equipment. He shared his own rehabilitation journey after being injured while serving in Afghanistan, where recovery support helped him return to elite sport. The bike is already being used with patients, including Jonathan, who said it helped him keep his muscles moving and gave him something to work towards during treatment. Sarah Leadsom, Advanced Critical Care Practitioner, said the bike will help patients begin rehabilitation earlier, maintain muscle strength and confidence, and support their recovery back to independence. A brilliant example of how NHS staff are helping patients start their recovery sooner and regain independence 💙
