Today, a russian drone struck a clearly marked evacuation vehicle operated by PULSE Consortium partner https://lnkd.in/dmaFPeXq . Two of the four civilians being evacuated from Oleksievo-Druzhkivka were killed. The remaining two evacuees and the driver were wounded and suffered blast injuries. ​ We extend sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. ​ Civilians must not be targeted. The bus was clearly marked as humanitarian, a fact that was deliberately disregarded. This incident represents another documented violation of International Humanitarian Law by russia. ​ Individuals fleeing shelling and those who evacuate them require protection throughout the entire evacuation process. The risks are significant, and current gaps in safety measures have proven fatal. ​ We urge all humanitarian organisations and donors to act urgently and invest in life-saving solutions. Priority should be given to: armoured vehicles for evacuation routes; drone detection systems; adequate personal protective equipment for crews and passengers.
