100 kilometres of subsea cable, manufactured and tested. Malta's second interconnector with Sicily is ready for installation. The IC2 project reached a critical milestone this week: Factory Acceptance Testing completed at our Charleston facility, just over 13 months after contract signature. The cable is cleared for load-out.    IC2 will deliver a new ~122 kilometre, 225 MW HVAC interconnection between Malta and Sicily, reinforcing Malta’s security of supply and supporting the country’s energy transition. Nexans is delivering 100 kilometres of subsea cable for this link, plus 4 kilometres of spare. This project matters for reasons that go beyond engineering. Malta was electrically isolated until 2015, when the first Nexans interconnector linked the island to the European grid for the first time. IC2 now extends that capacity. The installation will use deep burial techniques, including our Capjet system, offering stronger protection than IC1. A decade of operational experience on a live critical network, translated directly into the next design.  The project is co-funded by the European Union under the 2021–2027 ERDF programme for Malta. Delivering complex subsea infrastructure at pace, without cutting corners on quality or protection standards, is what this work requires. And what it demands of the teams who built it.
