85,000 tonnes. That's how much low-carbon aluminium wire rod Nexans will source from Norsk Hydro over the next five years. Signed in Paris, the agreement runs until 2030 and secures supply for power cable solutions across Europe: medium-voltage grids, overhead transmission lines, subsea high-voltage infrastructure. Why aluminium, and why now? Europe's electricity network is expanding fast. More renewable capacity coming online, more cross-border interconnections, more grid reinforcement. Raw material security has become as strategic as the infrastructure itself. The material carries its own credentials. Hydro REDUXA is produced with 100% renewable energy in Norway. Its verified footprint sits below 4.0 kg CO2 per kg of aluminium, less than a third of the global average. "Europe's electrification ambitions depend not only on generating cleaner energy, but also on building the infrastructure needed to transport it efficiently and reliably," says Vijay Mahadevan, Executive Managing Director for Europe and Chief Operations Officer at Nexans. The deal also lines up with Hydro's ongoing capacity expansion at its Karmøy smelter, adding weight to both companies' long-term planning. What matters more right now for grid modernisation: securing raw materials, or scaling the manufacturing capacity behind them? #ElectrifyTheFuture #Nexans #GridModernisation #LowCarbonAluminium #Sustainability Images Credits: Hydro
