Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has criticised the bail granted to an alleged drug dealer arrested in Mitchells Plain. Metro Police allegedly found the accused with 30 packets of tik during an April arrest in Woodlands. The accused reportedly has a previous drug conviction and also faces separate murder and assault charges. Hill-Lewis called for tougher bail conditions in serious drug-related cases and said prosecutors should oppose bail where appropriate. The City has renewed calls for Metro Police to receive investigative powers, arguing this could strengthen prosecutions against organised crime.
