Loudoun County, Virginia, is home to 20% of the world's hyperscale data centers, which process AI, financial transactions, streaming services, cloud storage, and more. The best-known environmental impacts of HDCs are energy consumption, water use, and noise. But for her honors thesis in environmental studies, Anna Kobor (NYU College of Arts and Science ’26) chose to explore a less-studied issue: land-cover change, or alterations to the characteristics of the Earth’s surface. An HDC contributes to biodiversity loss and the degradation of ecosystems, which in turn can contribute to changes in climate. Anna is on a pre-health track, with double majors in psychology and environmental studies and a minor in chemistry. Her goal is to become a physician scientist, and she's headed to The Johns Hopkins University for a master's in biochemistry and molecular biology in the fall. #VioletPride Read more about Anna's project and stay tuned for more stories featuring our accomplished #NYU2026 grads: https://lnkd.in/eGrTkmyx 📷 Photo by Tracey Friedman
