In the summer of 2017, Brandie Miller felt a lump near her left armpit. She was only 31 and “at that age, you’re not thinking cancer,” she recalls. A biopsy at #NYPWestchester confirmed she had early-stage, triple-negative breast cancer. Under the care of medical oncologist Dr. Nancy Mills and breast surgeon Dr. Michelle Azu, Brandie underwent a lumpectomy, followed by chemotherapy and radiation. “From the moment I met the doctors at NewYork-Presbyterian, I felt at ease,” said Brandie. “This is a scary process, but I had a team behind me every step of the way.” Brandie’s cancer returned in November 2019, spreading to her spine and the lymph nodes in her neck, so she went back to Dr. Mills: “The team was amazing. They rallied around me and figured out a plan.” She underwent immunotherapy, a second course of chemotherapy, and radiation. And now, seven years later, Brandie shows no evidence of disease and is back to pursuing her two favorite hobbies – traveling and trying new cuisines along the way. “Brandie embodies the goal of amazing therapy and amazing results,” said Dr. Mills. This #NationalCancerSurvivorsDay, join us in celebrating Brandie’s recovery and sharing her message: “For anyone hesitant about screenings or self-exams, no one knows you quite like yourself. So you have to be that voice and speak openly with your doctors when something doesn’t feel right.” Learn more about #NYP’s comprehensive cancer care and the importance of early detection: https://nyphosp.co/4uDo5hD #NCSD2026 #CelebrateLife Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Weill Cornell Medicine, National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation, Inc.
