Andreas Hofer Hochdrucktechnik celebrates 100 years Part 4: 1933 - 1945: Far-reaching changes Andreas Hofer’s death in 1932 came at the height of the world economic crisis. To protect her family’s private assets, Elsa Hofer converted the company to “Andreas Hofer Hochdruck-Apparatebau GmbH” in 1932. In 1938, Head of Technical Management Walter Baensch registered his first patent. Power regulation means of circulation pumps for gases or liquids (see image) marked an important step in the history of valve construction at HOFER. With World War II the international market disintegrated and the wartime economy concentrated on niche products from a small number of companies. HOFER’s reputation meant that it was one of the few companies allowed to continue production of autoclaves and compressors. When US troops occupied Mülheim in 1945, the company’s future was uncertain. Luckily, as Elsa Hofer had not been personally involved in the National Socialist system and had also not employed any forced laborers, the company was allowed to recommence operations shortly after the end of the war.
