I was very grateful to attend the North West Obstetrics and Gynaecology Conference organised by Chester Medical School University of Chester in January as a Year 2 medical student. Early exposure to specialty-focused events like this is invaluable in supporting professional development and exploring clinical interests beyond the undergraduate curriculum. I presented a poster based on a literature review on progesterone therapy in endometrial hyperplasia, comparing the effectiveness of levonorgestrel intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) and oral progestogens 📊. A key learning point from my review was that the LNG-IUS demonstrates the highest regression rates, reduces progression to endometrial cancer, and allows fertility to be preserved, making it a strong first-line option for many patients when compared to oral progestogens. I was particularly drawn to this topic due to its relevance to fertility-preserving management, an area of women’s health that is increasingly important for this generation. Discussing my poster with attendees and receiving positive and constructive feedback helped consolidate my understanding and increased my confidence in communicating evidence-based research. The conference also provided the opportunity to engage with talks and posters presented by other students, highlighting the value of early academic involvement and shared learning.🤝 The practical workshops were especially beneficial. My first suturing workshop supported the development of early procedural skills, while the midwife-led simulated labour workshop reinforced the importance of multidisciplinary working and the central role of midwives in delivering safe, patient-centred obstetric care. Overall, this experience allowed me to develop key skills in linking evidence and critical appraisal to communicate research coherently, while further strengthening my interest in obstetrics and gynaecology. I am very thankful for the opportunity and for everyone who took the time to engage with and provide feedback on my work. ✨ #WomensHealth #MedicalStudent #StudentResearch #ObsAndGynae #MedicalEducation
