NEC has been honored with the first-ever GICHD Innovation Award for its AI-based landmine prediction technology in Cambodia. Presented by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) at a ceremony in Luxembourg, the award recognizes outstanding innovation in landmine clearance. Developed by NEC Laboratories Europe, NEC’s humanitarian AI platform applies advanced geospatial technology to assess landmine risk with up to 90% accuracy. This achievement is the result of a collaborative effort with the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), marking a significant step towards accelerating landmine clearance and improving safety in affected regions. NEC remains committed to advancing AI solutions to support Cambodia’s goal of completing landmine clearance by 2030 and to extend this technology to other landmine-affected countries.
