๐ŸŒŸ Staff Spotlight: Tom Kemmer ๐ŸŒŸ If youโ€™ve spent any time in the woodshop at North Dakota State University, chances are you already know this guy. But we figured it was time for a formal introduction to one of the real rock stars behind the scenes. Meet Tom Kemmer Maker Space Co-Manager and right-hand man to Josh Zeis. (Tom) "My creative journey began with skateboarding, which has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember. Skateboarding led me to music, photography, and printmaking. I studied these disciplines at MSUM in the late 1990s before transitioning to the Minneapolis music scene and earning a degree in photography and digital imaging from MCTC. Throughout my career, I have also worked extensively with video production and 16mm and 8mm film. After moving back to Fargo, I entered the construction industry, where I began experimenting with woodworking, steam bending, furniture building, and sculpture. My background in film later led me to join Misfit Productions, where I worked on short films and helped produce international events from France to Mexico City. My continued passion for skateboarding also inspired me to build the Hawks Nest, a private indoor skatepark. This project provided a platform for me to share my story on the TEDx stage and ultimately led me to found the North Dakota Skateboarding Association, a nonprofit focused on providing local opportunities while highlighting the physical, mental, and social benefits of Skateboarding. Recently, I have rediscovered my love for film photography, printmaking, and music. I am thrilled to join the makerspace team here at NDSU and look forward to sharing my knowledge and creativity with you all." If you see Tom in the shop this week, give him a shout โ€” and maybe a thank you while youโ€™re at it. #StaffSpotlight #MakerSpace #NDSUSoDAA #NDSU #Woodshop #DesignCommunity #HaroldsofMorrhead #HawksNest
