Many ion exchange systems have an inherent problem: they can't run continuously.​ ​ With a fixed bed system, product throughput is always being interrupted, no matter how many columns you use. Add in pressure fluctuations, and you're looking at resin damage, shortened bed life, and lower-quality output.​ The RDA (Rotary Distributing Apparatus) solves this by converting a fixed bed system into a true Continuous Ion Exchange (CIX) process. ​ What makes it different from other CIX systems? Where competing designs rotate all the resin vessels on an elaborate carousel, the RDA achieves the same result with a single moving part. The vessels themselves stay fixed in any configuration.​ ​ ND Engineering has manufactured RDA units across a wide range of industries, pharmaceutical, food processing, and uranium recovery, among others.​ ​ This unit, currently in production at our facility, is destined for the sweetener industry.​ We'll be sharing more of the build as it progresses.​
