Wildfires spread rapidly, often in remote and hazardous environments where detection and response are especially challenging for first responders. At NCSR Demokritos, we develop and test integrated technologies designed exactly for these conditions. The Greek pilot of 6G-VERSUS is a concrete example. It has recently completed its pre-trial on the Beyond 5G/6G Athens experimentation platform at NCSR Demokritos, carried out by the FRONT Research Group | NCSR "DEMOKRITOS" of the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications at NCSR Demokritos, and led by Harilaos Koumaras, PhD. The pilot integrates AI-powered sensing, UAVs, a robotic dog, and edge computing into a coordinated system for real-time wildfire monitoring and response. The FRONT team focuses on the network layer, ensuring reliable connectivity and system-level coordination under pressure. The Beyond 5G / 6G Athens experimentation platform at NCSR Demokritos is one of Europe’s key testbeds for validating 5G/6G technologies in real-world conditions.
