Low open rates? It’s not your product. It’s your first impression. In email marketing, the subject line is the handshake. If it doesn’t spark curiosity in 3 seconds, the email goes straight to archive, or worse, spam. Welcome to DAY 2 of our Free Email Marketing Mini-Course. Today, we’re talking about what makes people actually open your emails. Here’s what's proven to work: 1. Start with a subject line that feels personal (not robotic) “Monthly Newsletter - June 2024” isn’t going to cut it. Instead, try: “Quick tip that saved our last campaign” “We almost deleted this list (then this happened)” Use language that makes someone feel like the message was meant for them. --- 2. Stop writing to your whole list If everyone is getting the same email, no one feels spoken to. Segment by interest, behavior, or even where someone signed up. Targeted emails can lift open rates by over 25%. --- 3. Keep your “from name” consistent People don’t open emails from strangers. Use your brand or founder’s name consistently and build recognition. --- 4. Test. Tweak. Repeat. Even small changes like switching “Free Guide” to “Get Your Copy” can make a difference. Use A/B testing to learn what your audience actually clicks on. --- 5. Preview text matters more than you think Those few extra characters next to your subject line? They help tell the story. Don’t waste it on “View in browser.” --- Writing great emails isn’t about being clever. It’s about being clear, useful, and just interesting enough to earn a click. And no, your list isn’t tired of you. They’re just waiting for a reason to care.
