Mr Mahamood Bin Ahamed, aged 69 and a grandfather of 12, is one of the first few patients in Singapore to successfully undergo histotripsy treatment, a novel non-invasive treatment under trial at NCCS & SGH. Diagnosed with end stage liver disease and liver cancer, he was offered histotripsy to prevent tumour progression as he waits for a suitable liver to become available. Having witnessed how his late parents and sister suffered from cancer, Mr Mahamood is thankful the clinical trial has given him the hope that they never had. Launched in December 2025, the histotripsy clinical trial led by NCCS & SGH aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of histotripsy for the treatment of liver cancers in the Asian population.ย  While liver cancer is one of the deadliest and most commonly diagnosed cancers in Singapore, advances in medicine and innovative therapies offer greater hope for patients and their families!
