Skills, opportunities and team dynamics can help young adults thrive at work. But a recent study suggests that what happens earlier on in life can also affect how young adults experience the workplace. Researchers from NUS and Griffith Business School found that young Singaporean workers who experienced childhood adversities like abuse, exposure to substance abuse and poverty, are likelier to struggle at work, with lower perceived health affecting their job security confidence, self-efficacy and optimism for the future. The study adds to a growing conversation on youth well-being and workplace support in helping young adults thrive in the workplace.
