‘Tis the sea-son to shell-ebrate World Ocean Day! 🌊🪸🐠🐚 NUS marine biologist Dr Ow Yan Xiang from the NUS Tropical Marine Science Institute and National Marine Laboratory, St John's Island (SJINML) takes us on a deep dive into her work on seagrass. Seagrass meadows are important ecosystems, providing marine creatures with food, shelter and nursing grounds. They also protect the coasts from erosion and efficiently absorb carbon emissions. However, Singapore has lost 45% of its seagrass since the 1960s due to land reclamation and ongoing coastal development. From her collaboration with National Parks Board on Singapore’s inaugural seagrass restoration project to her research on the sexual reproduction of seagrasses, Dr Ow is actively trying to revive Singapore’s dwindling seagrass population. #NUSResearch #NUSImpact #NUSSustainability Sea more here: https://lnkd.in/gc8YDcZe
