With one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world, Australia was the first country in the world to implement and sustain a national bowel cancer screening program using faecal immunochemical tests. Backed by a succession of NHMRC grants, Professor Graeme Young AM of Flinders University made key contributions to the program’s initial development and ongoing conduct.
