The generational strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women runs deep and so does the need for culturally safe perinatal mental health care. The Kimberley Mum’s Mood Scale (KMMS) is an NHMRC funded, 2 part tool that supports culturally safe conversations about perinatal wellbeing — exploring both stress and resilience ‘The KMMS helps create a safe space for Aboriginal women to share their experiences and for health professionals to listen and respond in meaningful ways,’ said Dr Emma Carlin (The University of Western Australia).
