In low and middle income countries, cervical cancer is one of the highest burden cancers in women and the disease burden is much higher compared to Australia. Professor Karen Canfell AC of the University of Sydney has dedicated her career in research to improving cervical screening using new technologies and approaches. As the recipient of the 2025 NHMRC Elizabeth Blackburn Investigator Grant Award for Leadership in Health Services Research, Professor Canfell hopes to improve elimination efforts with a focus on low and middle income countries.
