"You've got to take them to school. They've got to come to school." But what can I do? All I'm going to do is make them worse.' Gavin's experience reflects the frustrations of many parents of autistic children. We know that the Government's Schools White Paper will be published today, we will be reading it in detail to make sure that: ▪️ Legal rights are fully protected. ▪️The voices of parents/carers and young people will be involved in the development of any new plans. ▪️There will be training in autism for all school staff. ▪️Autistic children must not just be seen as ‘pupils’ - their challenges may often not be seen in school itself but can come out strongly at home. ▪️Families are meaningfully involved throughout any assessment of needs to ensure children get the support they need to succeed at school.
